DMA, PMA among PAIP’s measures to reduce non-revenue water, Pahang assembly told

KUANTAN: Pengurusan Air Pahang Berhad (PAIP) is planning and implementing various initiatives to reduce non-revenue water (NRW), including the construction of district metering areas (DMA) and pressure management areas (PMA), the State Legislative Assembly was told today.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the DMA and PMA would also help detect water leaks more efficiently.

Among other measures being undertaken by PAIP is the phased replacement of ageing pipelines, covering approximately 574 kilometres across the state by 2030, at an estimated cost of RM450 million.

“All of these efforts have been implemented progressively; they cannot be carried out all at once…our commitment to resolving Pahang’s water issues began in 2018 and is now starting to show results. The next phase is to reduce NRW,” he said when replying to a question from Su Keong Siong (PH-Ketari).

Commenting further, he said that in addition to PAIP’s internal funding, the state government also received an allocation of RM313 million in grants from the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation for the NRW programme.

Wan Rosdy also noted that factors contributing to NRW in Pahang include ageing pipelines as well as water theft.

He added that the state government has been visiting sites to observe water supply issues firsthand.
