DOE launches Ops Gerak 2025 to enforce vehicle emission standards

The Department of Environment launches nationwide Ops Gerak 2025 to strengthen compliance with vehicle emission and refrigerant management regulations

KUCHING: The Department of Environment (DOE) has launched the national-level Minggu Operasi Gerak Kenderaan Motor 2025, known as Ops Gerak Kebangsaan.

The operation aims to strengthen nationwide compliance with vehicle emission standards.

DOE director-general Datuk Wan Abdul Latiff Wan Jaffar said the nationwide operation will be conducted simultaneously during the second week of December.

He stated it will continue periodically as scheduled throughout the year.

“In addition to motor vehicle enforcement, DOE emphasises compliance in refrigerant management,” he said at the launch event.

The launch was held in conjunction with the World Ozone Day celebration in Kuching.

Wan Abdul Latiff said the department is committed to ensuring compliance with the Environmental Quality (Refrigerant Management) Regulations 2020.

This effort aligns with the nation’s goal to curb emissions harmful to the atmosphere.

To support this, DOE is upgrading its monitoring equipment and operational capacity.

The upgrades include 22 new smoke meters for diesel vehicle inspections.

It also involves 14 latest-model gas analysers for petrol vehicles and 14 sound level meters for noise measurement.

“The enforcement teams nationwide are also being strengthened with new operational vehicles such as the Toyota Hilux and Proton X70,” he added.

Wan Abdul Latiff stressed that the DOE will not compromise with any party failing to comply with environmental regulations.

“I urge all sectors to continue working together to ensure the environmental sustainability agenda can be achieved holistically and sustainably,” he said.

This year’s World Ozone Day carries the theme “From Science to Global Action”.

The theme highlights the need for collective, data-driven action to safeguard the Earth’s atmosphere. – Bernama
