Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi commends national doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik for their determined performance in the Malaysia Open final.
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has congratulated national men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik for their performance at the 2026 Petronas Malaysia Open.
In a Facebook post, he attributed their run to the final to their “unflinching determination and discipline”.
He said their ability to reach the finals demonstrated a strong fighting spirit, even though they did not secure the title.
“It isn’t merely a decision but a manifestation of continuous effort and maturity at the highest global level,” Ahmad Zahid wrote.
He encouraged the pair to use the experience as a catalyst to shine brighter in the future.
The Deputy Prime Minister also voiced support on behalf of all Malaysians, stating everyone is proud and will always back them.
Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik lost 15-21, 21-12, 18-21 to defending champions Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae of South Korea in the final at Axiata Arena.
