Eight rescued from storm-damaged Petron platform in Port Dickson

Eight men stranded on a Petron platform in Port Dickson were rescued after a jetty collapse during Tropical Storm Senyar, with all victims safely brought to shore.

PORT DICKSON: Eight men were rescued after being stranded on a Petron platform following thunderstorms and rough sea conditions.

The Negeri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department said the victims, aged in their 20s to 50s, were stranded after the platform’s jetty collapsed during Tropical Storm Senyar.

Five victims managed to get onto a Petron-owned tugboat, while two were on the Petron Emergency Response rescue boat.

One person remained stranded on the damaged jetty, with none able to return to shore due to severe weather conditions.

A joint search-and-rescue operation was launched by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and Petron teams.

The Petron Emergency Response Team successfully rescued all victims at approximately 3.55 am.

All victims were safely gathered on the tugboat and brought to shore, with the operation concluding at 6 am.
