Eleven tube wells boost water supply for Kapit’s rural schools

Eleven tube well projects in Kapit provide clean water to rural schools, funded by an RM11.49 million allocation for 2025

KAPIT: Eleven tube well construction and installation projects have enhanced water supply for rural schools in the Kapit division.

Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the initiative ensures all students have access to a stable and safe water supply.

“These tube wells not only provide clean and safe water but also create a solid foundation for improving the learning environment,” he said at a project handover ceremony.

The project is funded by an RM11.49 million allocation in 2025 for developing rural school water supply systems.

Work includes constructing storage tanks, pump houses, and conducting geophysical drilling to ensure water quality.

Each tube well has a daily production capacity of 10,000 litres, sufficient for school needs.

The water is treated using a reverse osmosis system to make it safe for consumption.

The benefiting schools include SK Nanga Bena, SK Rantau Panjai, and SK Nanga Kebiaw.

Seven schools have fully completed their water supply installations.

Four schools have yet to meet the minimum capacity requirements.

The Public Works Department has proposed alternative solutions to the Ministry of Education for these four schools.

Follow-up contracts are being planned to ensure their water supply is provided.

Nanta reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring all schools receive full benefits.

He urged schools to take proper care of the facilities for long-term use.

The government is committed to providing rural schools with the same basic facilities as urban ones.

These tube wells are part of an ongoing initiative for a safe and sustainable learning environment. – Bernama
