Federal Territories enforcement officers will wear body cameras from Q4 2025 to boost integrity, part of a new anti-corruption pact with MACC.
PUTRAJAYA: Local authority enforcement officers under the Federal Territories Department will begin wearing body cameras in phases starting the fourth quarter of this year.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh (pic) said the measure aims to boost integrity and transparency amid frequent public complaints.
The initiative is part of a new strategic pact signed with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to ensure continuous review and improvement of the department’s administration.
“We frequently receive complaints about corrupt practices when enforcement officers go into the field,” Yeoh said after the signing ceremony.
The partnership establishes a framework for sharing information and expertise to detect and verify complaints.
It also commits both parties to advisory services for improving systems and collaborating on anti-corruption training programmes.
Yeoh added that job rotations would be implemented more frequently for special and sensitive units.
This is to prevent officers from developing overly familiar relationships with stakeholders.
In addition, procurement procedures would be overhauled by moving the entire quotation and tender process online.
She also announced that the risk rating for the Federal Territories Lands and Mines Office would be reassessed.
This paves the way for MACC officers to be placed within its integrity unit for monitoring and recommendations.
“We are opening the door for the MACC to come in and provide recommendations,” she said.
The signing ceremony was also attended by MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki and senior officials from the Federal Territories Department and local authorities.
