Fire and Rescue Department forms 29 quick response teams for monsoon

Malaysia’s Fire and Rescue Department establishes 29 quick response teams to handle floods during the 2025/2026 Northeast Monsoon season.

PUCHONG: The Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia has established 29 Quick Response Teams to enhance disaster response capabilities during the upcoming monsoon season.

These specialised teams will focus exclusively on flood-related incidents without disrupting regular firefighting and rescue operations.

Director-General Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohamad confirmed each team comprises 18 personnel dedicated to rapid deployment.

He explained that these teams remain on standby to handle flood emergencies across state and district boundaries.

The announcement came during an engagement session with media representatives on government monsoon preparedness.

Malaysia anticipates the Northeast Monsoon season will span from November 6 to March 26, 2026.

Forecasters predict five to seven continuous heavy rainfall episodes throughout this period.

The department has additionally distributed 150 community boats nationwide to support early evacuation efforts.

These boats have been allocated to flood-prone areas including Kuala Lipis, Kuala Langat, Dengkil, and Kuala Selangor.

Recent training exercises involved Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail operating one boat in his frequently flooded Jelai constituency.

The engagement session included representatives from multiple agencies including police, welfare services, and meteorological departments.

This comprehensive preparation aims to ensure coordinated response efforts throughout the challenging monsoon season. – Bernama
