Fire destroys 54 old bazaar units in Kampar, no casualties reported

A fire destroyed 54 old bazaar units in Kampar early this morning, with 100% damage to the wooden structure but no injuries reported

KAMPAR: A fire destroyed 54 old bazaar units selling various goods along Jalan Idris in Kampung Masjid early this morning.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call about the incident at 3.10 am.

Personnel were dispatched from the Kampar, Gopeng and Tapah fire and rescue stations to the scene.

Acting assistant director of operations Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said all 54 units were completely destroyed.

“We were informed that only 10 of the units were operating at the time, comprising clothing shops, grocery outlets and food stalls,” he said.

The building was an old single-storey wooden structure classified as Class C construction.

It measured approximately 45 feet by 110 feet and sustained an estimated 100% damage.

No casualties were reported from the fire.

The firefighting operation involved four fire engines and 25 personnel.
