Flood evacuee numbers fall in Perlis, Perak, Selangor and Pahang, with several relief centres closing as water levels recede.
KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims at temporary relief centres across four states decreased further on Tuesday night.
In Perlis, the number of evacuees dropped to 256 people after another centre closed.
Earlier in the afternoon, 288 people were housed at three shelters.
State Disaster Management Secretariat data shows two centres remain open in Padang Besar and Arau.
In Perak, evacuee numbers at 18 centres fell to 2,763 individuals from 785 families.
This is down from 3,002 individuals from 872 families recorded in the afternoon.
The State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said Hilir Perak has the highest number of victims at 1,441.
It is followed by Bagan Datuk (662), Manjung (416), Perak Tengah (229), and Larut, Matang and Selama (15).
In Selangor, the number of evacuees decreased to 712 individuals from 220 families.
The afternoon figure was 740 individuals from 234 families.
The Social Welfare Department’s Infobencana website showed eight operational centres, down from nine, in Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam.
In Pahang, two relief centres remain open in Kuantan and Maran.
They are housing 28 individuals from six families, down from 32 individuals from seven families.
InfoBencana data shows 21 victims from five families are at Balairaya Kampung Baru Pertanian in Maran.
Seven individuals from one family are sheltering at Sekolah Menengah Pendidikan Khas Vokasional Kuantan.
