Flood evacuee totals in Sabah and Sarawak drop to 3,168 as relief centres close, though some locations in Serian and Bintulu see increases.
KUALA LUMPUR: The number of people displaced by floods in Sabah and Sarawak has decreased slightly this evening.
A total of 3,168 evacuees from 1,002 families are now housed in relief centres across both states, down from 4,257 people this morning.
In Sarawak, 29 relief centres remain open, sheltering 2,802 people from 864 families.
This is a reduction from the 41 centres housing 3,890 people from 1,175 families reported at 8 am.
Eleven relief centres in the Samarahan, Gedong, Siburan and Balai Ringin districts were closed today.
Despite the overall drop, several locations saw an increase in evacuees.
These include centres at Sekolah Kebangsaan Krusen in Serian, Dewan Suarah and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sebauh in Bintulu.
In Sabah, 366 people from 138 families are currently at relief centres, compared to 367 people from 137 families this morning.
Of this total, 328 people from 123 families are taking shelter at Dewan Slagon in Bintulu.
The remaining evacuees are at Dewan Sri Dayang Shahbandar in Padas Damit.
