Flood evacuees in Terengganu drop to 419 as conditions improve

Flood victims in Terengganu decrease to 419 people from 107 families, with Kuala Nerus worst-hit as continuous rain alert remains until Dec 29.

KUALA TERENGGANU: The number of flood evacuees in Terengganu has fallen to 419 people from 107 families as of 6 pm.

This is a decrease from the 468 people from 116 families reported earlier in the day, according to the Terengganu State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN).

Kuala Nerus remains the worst-affected district, with 335 victims from 86 families housed at two relief centres.

The centres are Sekolah Kebangsaan Tok Jembal and SK Kompleks Mengabang Telipot.

In Kuala Terengganu district, 71 people from 19 families are still at a relief centre at SK Chendering.

Dungun has 13 people from two families sheltering at the Dewan Sivik Kampung Seberang Pintasan.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a continuous rain warning at the alert level for Terengganu.

The alert is expected to remain in effect until Dec 29.

The public, especially those in low-lying and high-risk areas, are advised to remain vigilant and follow instructions from authorities.
