Flood evacuees increase in Sarawak, decrease in Sabah as rain warnings issued

Flood evacuees in Sarawak rise to 1,172 while Sabah sees a drop to 503. MetMalaysia issues severe and alert rain warnings for multiple districts.

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees at relief centres increased in Sarawak but decreased in Sabah as of 4 pm today.

In Sarawak, there are now 1,172 evacuees from 349 families at 15 centres, a significant rise from 319 people from 93 families this morning.

Conversely, Sabah reported 503 evacuees from 173 families this evening, down from 633 people from 215 families this afternoon.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a severe warning of continuous rain for several districts.

The warning covers Kuching (Bau and Kuching), Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman (Sri Aman) and Betong (Pusa and Betong).

An alert warning for continuous rain is also in effect for other areas.

These include Kuching (Lundu), Sri Aman (Lubok Antu), Betong (Saratok and Kabong), Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu and Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi).
