Flood situation improves in Kedah and Perak as evacuee numbers drop

Flood evacuees in Kedah and Perak decrease to 985 people as relief centres close, with Pendang district recording the highest number of victims.

KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Kedah and Perak continues to improve with evacuee numbers dropping significantly this evening.

The number of people at temporary relief centres fell to 985 from 1,442 recorded this morning.

In Kedah, flood victims decreased to 781 people from 217 families, down from 1,005 people from 282 families earlier today.

Evacuees from Pendang, Kota Setar, and Pokok Sena districts remain sheltered at five operating relief centres.

Pendang district continues to record the highest number of victims with 576 people from 160 families.

Kota Setar follows with 135 people from 36 families, while Pokok Sena has 70 people from 21 families.

Perak also shows positive improvements with four relief centres closing this evening.

Only 204 evacuees from 59 families remain at two operating centres in Manjung district, down from 437 people from 128 families this morning.

According to the Perak State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, 130 people from 36 families are at Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai relief centre.

Another 74 people from 23 families remain sheltered at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Batu relief centre. – Bernama
