Flood recovery continues as Perlis and Pahang near normalcy, while evacuee numbers fall further in Perak and Selangor relief centres.
KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Perlis and Pahang has nearly returned to normal, while the number of evacuees in Perak and Selangor continued to decline this morning.
In Perak, the number of flood victims at 18 temporary relief centres across five districts dropped to 2,690 people from 783 families.
This is down from 2,763 people from 785 families reported last night.
Hilir Perak district still records the highest number of victims at 1,385 people.
It is followed by Bagan Datuk with 650 evacuees, Manjung with 413, Perak Tengah with 229, and Larut, Matang and Selama with 13.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasts storms and rain in Kampar, Muallim and Batang Padang districts this afternoon and evening.
Several other districts including Kerian, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Hilir Perak and Kinta are expected to experience storms in the afternoon.
In Selangor, the number of evacuees decreased to 699 people from 215 families this morning.
This compares to 712 people from 220 families last night.
The number of operating relief centres in the state has also dropped to seven from eight previously.
These centres are located in the districts of Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam.
The flood situation in Perlis continues to improve, with evacuees reduced to 207 as of 8 am today.
All evacuees remain housed at two relief centres in the Padang Besar and Arau areas.
In Pahang, the number of evacuees in Kuantan and Maran remains at 28 people from six families.
They are sheltering at two relief centres, unchanged from last night.
Twenty-one evacuees from five families are at the Kampung Baru Pertanian community hall in Maran.
Seven members of a family are housed at the Sekolah Menengah Pendidikan Khas Vokasional in Kuantan.
Water levels at all major river stations monitored by the Irrigation and Drainage Department in Pahang remain below the danger level. – Bernama
