Several areas in Kuching were flooded following continuous heavy rain, with evacuation centres being opened and a weather alert in effect.
KUCHING: Several areas around Kuching city were flooded this morning after heavy rain persisted since midnight.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department received a call about the situation in Taman Desa Wira and Kampung Sinar Budi Baru at 5 am. “The caller informed that their home area had been flooded and needed assistance to evacuate them to a safe place,” a department statement said.
It is understood that two temporary evacuation centres are being opened, though detailed information has not yet been updated.
The Meteorological Department had issued a continuous rain warning at alert level for several areas in Sarawak starting today until Jan 1, 2026. Areas expected to be affected include Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman and Betong.
