Floods return to Pahang as Johor evacuee numbers climb

Floods have returned to Pahang’s Rompin district, while Johor’s Segamat sees a rise in evacuees with two rivers exceeding danger levels.

KUALA LUMPUR: Flooding has returned to parts of Pahang following continuous heavy rain, while the number of evacuees in Johor has increased.

In Pahang, 49 people from 13 families were evacuated to the Balai Raya Kampung Setajam relief centre in Rompin, which opened at noon.

As of 3 pm, the water levels at Sungai Rompin in Kampung Kerpal and Sungai Pukin in Rompin had exceeded their warning levels.

In Johor, the number of flood victims in Segamat rose to 173 people from 58 families as of 4 pm, up from 148 this morning.

They are being housed at seven relief centres across the district.

Two rivers in Segamat have exceeded the danger level.

Sungai Muar at Kampung Awat recorded a reading of 20.12 metres, while Sungai Muar at Buloh Kasap was at 8.66 metres.

Three roads have been completely closed to all vehicles.

Jalan Jabi-Bukit Tempurung in Segamat is closed due to flooding, Felda Tenggaroh 3 in Mersing is shut due to a slope collapse, and the Kesang-Sungai Rambai Bridge in Tangkak is closed due to structural cracks.
