220 former commandos from elite units will join the Border Control and Protection Agency, contributing up to 20 years of service
MELAKA: Former commandos joining the Border Control and Protection Agency are expected to contribute up to 20 years of service.
Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said the 220 commandos selected for AKPS comprise personnel completing their service with the Malaysian Armed Forces and aged at least 40.
He stated that after completing their military service, they will be absorbed into AKPS.
Adly noted that most are around 40 years old, so they can still serve effectively for the next two decades.
He added that those selected include members of the elite Special Service Group, Paratroopers, Naval Special Forces and Air Force Special Forces.
The deputy minister explained that these elite troops bring extensive expertise that can strengthen border security.
Adly highlighted that many have served in strategic areas nationwide, making them well-suited for duties at the country’s entry points.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced during the Budget 2026 tabling that priority would be given to military veterans to fill the 220 positions required by AKPS to achieve full operational readiness. – Bernama
