According to the Finance Ministry (MOF), as of 14 July 2026, a total of 4,046,448 litres of petrol had been saved under the initiative.

PETALING JAYA: A three-month work-from-home (WFH) initiative for federal civil servants has helped the government reduce fuel subsidy expenditure by RM7.31 million, with more than four million litres of petrol saved.

According to the Finance Ministry (MOF), as of 14 July 2026, a total of 4,046,448 litres of petrol had been saved under the initiative.

“The policy, introduced in response to the global energy supply crisis, has cumulatively benefited 674,408 civil servants.

“The primary objective of implementing the WFH policy is to reduce the nation’s fuel consumption and thereby extend available fuel supplies,” the ministry said in a written parliamentary reply.

The MOF was responding to a question from Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, who asked the government to specify the financial implications and total savings achieved through the implementation of the WFH policy in the public sector, as well as subsidy rationalisation measures.

The ministry added that the government continues to encourage the public to use fuel prudently while ensuring that supplies remain sufficient to support daily activities, public transport, logistics operations and other critical sectors.
