Gua Musang District Council steps up pruning and felling of high-risk trees along roads to prevent hazards during the monsoon season
GUA MUSANG: The Gua Musang District Council (MDGM) has intensified maintenance of ageing and high-risk trees along major roads and public areas to safeguard road users during the monsoon season.
MDGM president Mohd Roshdi Ismail said the efforts involve pruning and felling trees based on their condition, including those forming part of the local landscape.
He said nine maintenance operations have been carried out so far this year, involving the use of rented machinery to secure high-risk locations.
“Overgrown trees that obstruct street lighting and pose hazards to road users have been pruned to improve visibility and safety,” he told reporters.
Mohd Roshdi said tree maintenance is conducted routinely, with additional follow-up based on public complaints, to prevent incidents such as loss of life and property damage.
He added that a twice-monthly maintenance schedule, supported by regular monitoring, results in about 24 operations annually.
“We will continue to remove hazardous trees and carry out routine maintenance based on necessity and tree condition as part of MDGM’s ongoing operations,” he said. – Bernama
