Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution says the Attorney-General’s decision to drop 47 charges against Ahmad Zahid is within his constitutional authority.
BANDAR BAHARU: The decision to take no further action on 47 charges against Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi falls fully under the authority of the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the decision was made in line with provisions under Article 145 of the Federal Constitution.
“Whatever decision is made by the Attorney-General, I believe it is made within the legal framework and in accordance with the authority provided by the Federal Constitution,” he told reporters.
He was speaking after officiating a Back to School Programme 2026 here today.
Earlier, the AGC stated it had decided on no further action regarding the charges of criminal breach of trust, corruption and money laundering involving Yayasan Akalbudi funds linked to Ahmad Zahid.
The AGC said this decision led to the final termination of the case.
Separately, Saifuddin Nasution announced the relocation of the Kulim Immigration Office to new, more spacious premises.
He said the move addresses public complaints over congestion and lack of parking at the previous shoplot location.
The relocation aims to improve service delivery amid increasing transactions for passports, border passes and foreign worker management.
Passport applications are now reportedly processed, approved and issued within about one hour.
Saifuddin Nasution said comfort and smooth public dealings must be prioritised for frontline agencies like immigration.
The new office’s strategic location is also expected to provide relief to residents of southern Kedah and Penang, especially on weekends.
