Deputy Works Minister Ahmad Maslan orders JKR to closely monitor contractors and prevent project delays, stressing the importance of meeting schedules.
MELAKA: The Public Works Department (JKR) has been directed to constantly monitor project implementation under its purview to ensure set schedules are met.
Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said this monitoring is crucial, especially for contractors who purposely delay projects without good reason, leading to sick projects.
“We do not like delayed projects or extensions of time,” he said at a press conference after a working visit to the Melaka JKR.
“We want all our entrusted projects to be ahead of schedule.”
He said this principle is emphasised by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Ahmad stressed the importance of expediting the pre-construction phase for announced projects, such as the Melaka Hospital Women’s and Children’s Ward Building.
He requested that JKR directors always follow up to ensure projects quickly move from planning to implementation.
In line with this, Ahmad wants 159 federal projects worth RM2.7 billion under Melaka JKR to adhere to the ahead-of-schedule principle.
These projects cover the planning, construction and handover phases.
Earlier in a briefing, he expressed satisfaction with the Melaka JKR’s achievements.
He wants the only sick project, the Lesung Batu Mosque in Machap Jaya, Alor Gajah, to be completed immediately with careful monitoring.
Ahmad also said he had approved an application by Merlimau assemblyman Datuk Muhamad Akmal Saleh for immediate drain repairs in a flood-prone area.
“For such cases, we have approved them based on suitability and importance,” he added.
“If we expedite the approval for such project applications, we will eliminate a major problem experienced by the residents.”
