Johor DOSH orders closure of Pontian power plant site after crane collapse kills two, injures three, with legal action promised against violators
JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor Department of Occupational Safety and Health has ordered the closure of the site of a fatal crane collapse at a Pontian power plant.
DOSH issued two prohibition notices, halting all activity at the Tanjung Bin power plant area near Kukup pending a full investigation.
The coal-handling crane collapsed at around 1 pm yesterday, killing two workers and injuring three others.
The incident also triggered a small fire at the site.
DOSH stated that legal action will be taken against any party found to have breached the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994.
The department urged all employers to be more vigilant about workplace safety and health.
It also reminded employers to conduct risk assessments for all work activities and implement necessary control measures.
The deceased workers were identified as Muhammad Alfarid Ahmad, 19, and Muhammad Amaluddin Hisamudin, 22.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the cause.
Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition Minister, urged DOSH, police, the Energy Commission and relevant technical agencies to determine the exact cause. – Bernama
