Johor’s 16 dams remain above 70% capacity overall, with four locations under watch as the state endures over a month of dry conditions.

Johor Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said overall dam capacity currently exceeds 70%.
He stated that raw water supply is sufficient to meet current needs across the state.
However, four dams have recorded water levels below 60% and require close monitoring.
The dams are the Upper Layang Dam at 46.89%, Pulai 1 Dam at 47.63%, Gunung Pulai 2 Dam at 56%, and Lower Layang Dam at 60.33%.
“These four dams are under BAKAJ’s management and based on today’s readings, Feb 3, all have yet to reach critical levels,” Mohamad Fazli said.
He added that all dams and water treatment plants are still operating well.
On supply sustainability, he said Johor’s dams are designed with storage margins to withstand droughts of between three and six months.
A coordination meeting will be held to prepare for potential plant closures or reduced operations if needed.
The proposal to implement cloud seeding will be discussed, though its effectiveness depends on weather factors.
The media recently reported that all mosques and surau across Johor have been directed to perform the istisqa’ prayer for rain for three consecutive days.
Several open burning incidents have occurred recently, including a large peatland fire in Pengerang.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Fazli announced the completion of a RM13 million concrete bridge project on the Gelang Patah-Pendas route.
He said the project, completed on Jan 27, is expected to benefit 80,000 users.
