Kelantan Perkeso proposes state sponsorship for 20 self-employed workers per constituency to join the Lindung Kendiri social security scheme
KELANTAN: The Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) in Kelantan has proposed that the state government sponsor at least 20 individuals in each state constituency to join the Social Security Scheme for Self-Employed (Lindung Kendiri).
State director Nora Yaacob said this would support small traders, fishermen, micro-entrepreneurs, food delivery riders and other informal sector workers who have yet to contribute.
She said the sponsorship would provide basic protection for at-risk groups and raise public awareness of the importance of social security.
“Through this cooperation, we could register nearly 900 contributors across 45 state constituencies,” she told reporters at a programme in Kampung Badang.
Nora said they are awaiting confirmation on whether the proposal will be approved.
Earlier, Kelantan Perkeso received over RM51,000 in corporate zakat and CSR funds from the Companies Commission of Malaysia for distribution to 20 micro-entrepreneurs.
Nora said participation in Lindung Kendiri in Kelantan has reached only about 40% this year, with nearly 1,500 contributors against a target of 4,000.
“The figure shows that many small traders, delivery riders, fishermen and informal sector workers still have not enrolled,” she said.
A range of engagement initiatives is being intensified to reach more self-employed workers across the state.
Perkeso hopes to record greater participation next year to ensure self-employed workers enjoy a comprehensive social safety net. – Bernama
