King lends personal airboats for national flood rescue operations

Sultan Ibrahim grants use of his two high-powered airboats to federal government to boost flood rescue efficiency and emergency aid delivery.

KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has granted the Federal Government permission to deploy two of his personal high-powered airboats for flood rescue operations.

A statement on the King’s official Facebook page said he consented to the use of the assets due to the current unpredictable weather.

The permission aims to ensure rescue agencies are prepared should a second wave of flooding occur.

“The two airboats, now stationed at Istana Negara, are expected to enhance operational efficiency and speed up the delivery of emergency aid,” the post stated.

In March 2023, three of the King’s airboats were mobilised to rescue, evacuate and assist flood victims in Johor.

The assets were also used to deliver food supplies to cut-off Orang Asli settlements in Kluang during that disaster.

As of this morning, four states remain affected by floods.

Perak has 2,690 evacuees, followed by Selangor (699), Perlis (207) and Pahang (28).

In a separate development, Sultan Ibrahim received a briefing in Johor Bahru from 21st Special Service Group Commander Major General Datuk Ahmad Shuhaimi Mat Wajab.

The briefing covered the group’s procurement plan under the 13th Malaysia Plan.

It also included preparations for the Special Service Regiment’s Diamond Jubilee celebration in Melaka and updates on a combat diving pool construction at Iskandar Camp in Mersing. – Bernama
