Transport Minister Anthony Loke says the KVDT2 Subang Jaya-Klang section will be completed by end-March, with full project completion taking several more years
KUALA LUMPUR: The Subang Jaya-Klang section of the Klang Valley Double Track Phase 2 (KVDT2) rehabilitation project is slated for completion by the end of March.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the entire second phase, which extends to Seremban, will require several more years to finish.
He attributed the accelerated construction to a drastic measure implemented last year, which involved closing the entire KTM Komuter line based on extensive data analysis.
“Currently, trains only operate in one direction from Klang to KL Sentral during morning peak hours because data shows that 90% of passengers during these hours travel from Klang to Kuala Lumpur for work, not the other way around,” Loke explained.
He said train frequency had previously exceeded one hour because services ran in both directions.
Services from Klang to KL Sentral now operate at 30-minute intervals during the morning peak, with six trips running until around 9 am.
Services are then suspended until 4 pm to allow construction to continue, resuming in the evening from KL Sentral to Port Klang when passenger movement reverses.
“The whole idea is to expedite the construction process so that the project can be completed sooner,” he added.
On the issue of cable theft affecting LRT and MRT services, Loke said the Transport Ministry has held high-level discussions with the Home Ministry and police.
“Existing laws need to be enforced, and this must come from PDRM. Bukit Aman is taking this issue seriously,” he stated.
He emphasised that stern and proactive measures will be implemented in identified hotspot areas.
Loke added that police enforcement remains crucial, while rail operators will also implement additional measures to curb theft and minimise disruptions.
