Search teams recover another victim from the capsized migrant boat near Langkawi, bringing the death toll to 29 with 14 survivors rescued so far

ALOR SETAR: The body of another victim from the capsized migrant boat was recovered on Friday, raising the death toll to 29.

Kedah and Perlis Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency director First Admiral (M) Romli Mustafa said the public reported finding a man’s body at Pulau Singa Besar.

An MMEA boat was mobilised to retrieve the body and transport it to their jetty before handing it over to police.

The search and rescue operation entered its seventh day on Friday, resuming at 7.30 am.

Romli said the search covered a sector of 33.86 nautical miles using four assets.

All rescue agencies remain committed to the operation until the entire search area is covered.

Efforts will continue despite the challenging conditions.

Over the previous six days, the search area spanned 1,355.15 nautical square miles.

Fourteen survivors have been rescued since the boat capsized in Langkawi waters. – Bernama
