Selangor Islamic Religious Council warns Muslims against supporting LGBT activities, citing conflict with Islamic law and Malaysian societal values.
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) has reminded Muslims not to participate in or support any activities associated with normalising lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) lifestyles.
Its chairman, Senator Datuk Salehuddin Saidin, said such matters contradict Islamic teachings, Malaysian law, Eastern cultural values and societal norms.
“MAIS views seriously media reports related to the organisation of programmes involving the LGBT community and efforts to promote lifestyles that are clearly contrary to Islamic teachings,” he said in a statement.
He stated that MAIS strongly opposes any activities aimed at promoting or normalising deviant lifestyles like LGBT.
Salehuddin urged the Muslim community to adhere firmly to Islamic teachings and not be influenced by an LGBT normalisation agenda that could undermine morals.
He advised those involved in deviant lifestyles to return to their natural disposition through rehabilitation programmes.
MAIS is committed to working with authorities to block activities that spread the influence of such damaging practices.
The council will also collaborate with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) to strengthen moral education and rehabilitation programmes.
This follows a statement by Selangor Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi.
He said the state government urged authorities to investigate the ‘Glamping With Pride’ programme scheduled in Hulu Langat next week.
The state government stated it would not compromise with any attempt to spread and promote LGBT culture in Selangor.
Media reports indicated the group involved intended to proceed with the event despite objections from various parties.
