Malaysia approves national fitness test for disabled public sector applicants

New fitness test for persons with disabilities approved for public sector hiring, alongside Orang Asli sports centre and MotoGP ticket sponsorship plan

PUTRAJAYA: The National Fitness Test Programme for Persons with Disabilities has been officially approved as the fitness screening mechanism for PwD candidates applying to join the public sector.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the approval following the Cabinet Committee on Sports Development Meeting No. 2/2025 which he chaired.

“The development of the National Fitness Test for PwDs serves as a standard guideline for assessing fitness levels in a more systematic and inclusive manner,” he said in a statement.

Ahmad Zahid said the programme demonstrates the government’s commitment to equal opportunity and human development without discrimination.

The meeting also focused on preparation status for the 2025 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games national contingents.

Emphasis was given to athlete performance and strategies to strengthen competitiveness in regional and international sporting events.

National contingent athletes will undergo courses with the National Civics Academy to build fighting spirit and confidence.

The committee agreed to establish the Orang Asli Sports Excellence Centre as a platform to discover new talents.

This centre will provide world-class training facilities through collaboration with the National Sports Council and Ministry of Education.

SMK Rancangan Penempatan Semula Betau in Kuala Lipis, Pahang received recognition as an Orang Asli sports excellence centre.

Ahmad Zahid proposed that GLCs sponsor tickets for school students and PwDs to attend next year’s MotoGP championship in Sepang.

He recommended including the event in the Visit Malaysia 2026 calendar as a main sports tourism attraction.

The meeting noted positive developments in national sports disciplines including e-sports and badminton.

Malaysia’s representatives emerged as world champions in badminton in 2025, proving systematic planning yields results.

Ahmad Zahid called on all parties to strengthen cooperation and support the national sports development agenda. – Bernama
