Malaysia committed to justice, peace and dignity in global affairs

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says Malaysia is ready to support multilateral efforts and international peacekeeping, while respecting regional stakeholders.

ANKARA: Malaysia remains steadfast in promoting justice, peace and dignity on the international stage, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

He stated the country is ready to support multilateral efforts, including UN peacekeeping, while respecting regional stakeholders.

“We are open. So whatever is necessary, or to help, we will do it,” Anwar said during a public lecture in Ankara.

He emphasised this commitment extends beyond Gaza to issues like the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar.

Anwar stressed Malaysia’s foreign policy is grounded in international law and diplomatic engagement with all major powers.

He warned that unilateral actions by any country pose risks to global stability and must be rejected.

“We affirmed the position that it must be in accordance with international rules and laws, and no unilateral action by any country, big or small,” he said, referencing Malaysia’s stance on Venezuela.

The Prime Minister added that Malaysia had urged the United States to allow the Venezuelan people to determine their own future.

Despite disagreements with certain policies like ‘Trumpism’, Anwar said continued engagement remains essential for Malaysia.

He affirmed Malaysia would state its position firmly based on facts and law while maintaining respectful relations.

“We will continue to engage with the United States and treat them with respect,” Anwar said.

He noted Malaysia welcomes regional peace initiatives, including those by Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.

Anwar is on a three-day official visit to Turkiye at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

He also received a courtesy call from Turkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

The meeting discussed regional developments and strengthening long-standing bilateral relations.

Both sides committed to enhancing cooperation between their foreign ministries.
