Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil outlines 2026 focus on digital networks, creative industry growth, and improved government communications.
PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Communications is focusing on empowering digital infrastructure, the creative and information industries, and government communications this year.
Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said digital infrastructure empowerment involves extensive planning, including the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA) Phase 2.
It also includes the deployment of Point of Presence (PoP) Phase 2 solutions in certain areas and assisting schools that have received PoP.
“Planning of undersea cables needs to have a policy,” Fahmi said at the ministry’s monthly assembly.
He added that the ministry has asked its Policy and International Division to review such matters.
Fahmi said the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) and MyCreative Ventures need to examine efforts to further empower the country’s creative industry.
The industry’s contribution to the gross domestic product is seven per cent.
“We expect the latest export from MONSTA, the film Papa Zola, to be screened in several cinemas in Indonesia,” he said.
Fahmi noted it is rare for Malaysian films to be exported, but well-managed projects bring benefits.
“The creative industry, including animation, is something we must support and strive for,” he said.
He emphasised the need to find funds not only within the ministry but also with private sector partners.
For the empowerment of government information and communication, Fahmi stressed the need for easily understandable information dissemination.
This includes preparing graphics about new policies launched by the MADANI Government.
“Immediately after the announcement, it’s important to have easy-to-understand graphics for the client audience,” he added.
He said Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) also need to be prepared for new policies.
