Deputy Minister Marhamah Rosli calls for moderation in festive spending and conduct, aligning with PM Anwar’s stance on scaled-back celebrations.

MARANG: Muslims are encouraged to practise moderation, or *wasatiyyah*, in their Aidilfitri celebrations, particularly regarding expenditure.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Marhamah Rosli said this principle should extend to all aspects of life, not just the festive season.

She made the remarks after a Ziarah Kasih Ramadan programme here today.

Marhamah stated the approach aligns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call for the government to avoid large-scale open houses.

“Some may be sceptical of the suggestion, but this approach is not only relevant during times of crisis,” she said.

With Ramadan ending soon, she urged Muslims to reflect on embracing moderation in their daily lives.

She added that the values of moderation should extend beyond spending to include speech and overall conduct.

Marhamah also emphasised carrying the spirit of Ramadan into the month of Syawal.

“We understand that in Syawal there is freedom to eat and spend, but the question is whether we truly carry the spirit of Ramadan into Syawal,” she said.

She reminded the public that all actions and spending will be accounted for in the hereafter.
