Malaysian halal food firms key to global market entry, says deputy PM

Deputy PM Ahmad Zahid says local halal food producers are Malaysia’s gateway to the global halal market, valued at over RM16 trillion

BAGAN DATUK: Local halal food producers are not only supporting the domestic market but also have the potential to become Malaysia’s gateway to the global halal market.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the country’s halal food industry is now capable of exploring a global market worth over RM16.02 trillion. This value is projected to reach RM22.88 trillion by 2030.

He made these remarks while officiating the groundbreaking ceremony for the QL Inno Food Parks in Bagan Datuk. “QL Inno Foods Parks plays an important role. Halal is not only for Muslims but for everyone, and this company has halal certification,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Chairman of the National Halal Council, said its presence creates economic opportunities and jobs. He added that both the federal and state governments consistently support companies developing the halal industry.

“The government must be business-friendly, because the development of companies will give returns to the country through corporate taxes and job opportunities,” he stated.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, who was also present, said the ceremony marked the start of a large-scale industrial investment planned in phases for the long term.

He explained the industrial park’s development is expected to take about 10 years with an investment of RM1.2 billion. This demonstrates investor commitment to the potential and development direction of the Bagan Datuk district.

“QL Innofood Park reflects investor confidence in the stability of state policies, clear planning, and the state government’s ability to provide a trusted investment environment,” Saarani said.

The project is expected to empower the local halal industrial ecosystem, open job opportunities, and position Malaysia as a major player in the global halal market.
