Police arrest a man after a suspicious object resembling a bomb was discovered at a 24-hour sundry shop in Sitiawan, Perak
SITIAWAN: Police have arrested a man suspected of involvement in the discovery of an object resembling a bomb at a 24-hour sundry shop here.
The incident occurred at around 10.30pm yesterday at a shop in Manjung Point, Sitiawan, when an employee spotted the suspicious item on a food shelf.
Manjung District Police Chief ACP Hasbullah Abd Rahman said a police team and the Bomb Disposal Unit were dispatched to the scene.
A 34-year-old man believed to be linked to the incident was arrested in front of the premises.
Initial investigations found the object was non-functional and contained no explosives.
The Bomb Disposal Unit confirmed it was not dangerous due to the absence of explosives and an incomplete circuit.
Hasbullah said the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
He stated that police view the matter seriously and will take firm action against any form of security threat.
The police emphasised there would be no compromise on actions that could disrupt public order. – Bernama
