MCMC seeks public feedback on new online safety rules

Malaysia’s MCMC launches public consultation on Online Safety Plan framework, including draft codes for risk mitigation and child protection.

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched a public consultation on a proposed regulatory framework for the Online Safety Plan.

The consultation includes draft Codes of Risk Mitigation and a Child Protection Code under the new Online Safety Act 2025.

The proposed framework aims to strengthen online platforms’ capacity to manage safety risks. It places particular emphasis on protecting children, families and vulnerable groups.

These documents set out clear requirements for service providers to take reasonable and effective measures to practically reduce online harm.

The MCMC is inviting public participation to help shape a safer online ecosystem. Feedback is sought on the effectiveness and feasibility of measures to enhance online safety protections.

The public, industry players, civil society organisations and other stakeholders are encouraged to review the consultation documents and submit their feedback.

Written feedback may be submitted physically or electronically by 5 pm on March 13.

Further information on the public consultation is available on the MCMC’s official website. The draft codes can also be accessed via the commission’s online portal.
