The Ministry of Defence aims to raise RM5 million through the 2026/2027 Warriors’ Fund campaign to support Malaysian Armed Forces veterans and their dependants.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) is targeting RM5 million in donations through the 2026/2027 Warriors’ Fund campaign to improve the welfare and well-being of Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans.

Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the target is achievable, citing strong support from the public and corporate sector in previous fundraising campaigns.

He said collection figures show a positive upward trend, rising from RM1.306 million in the 2023/2024 session to RM2.19 million in 2024/2025, before surging to RM3.351 million in the 2025/2026 campaign.

He said the fund is primarily intended to assist veterans and their dependants in need, especially bedridden veterans from low-income backgrounds.

“The assistance covers necessities not provided by the government, such as special formula milk, diapers and disposable medical supplies,” he said at the launch of the 2026/2027 Warriors’ Fund campaign here today.

Also present were the campaign’s patron and wife of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Army chief General Tan Sri Azhan Md Othman, Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Dr Zulhelmy Ithnain and Air Force chief General Tan Sri Muhamad Norazlan Aris.

According to Mohamed Khaled, the public and businesses’ active involvement in contributing to the fund reflects their unwavering appreciation for the service and sacrifices of the nation’s defenders.

He said companies and individuals could claim income tax relief on all contributions to the fund.

He also thanked the government for allocating RM304 million to the MAF Veteran Affairs Department (JHEV) in Budget 2027 to ensure veterans’ welfare needs continue to be met.

“Every contribution is valuable. Whether large or small, each donation shows that we remember and appreciate them, and has a significant impact on the morale of personnel, veterans and their families,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Wan Azizah urged all Malaysians to support the “Satu Rakyat, Satu Ringgit” campaign to help veterans in need of financial assistance for medical treatment and living expenses.

“When they become bedridden or fall ill, they face high healthcare costs, particularly if they lose the ability to earn a living while still having families who depend on them.

“For the service they have rendered to the country, they deserve the best possible reward. These contributions reflect our concern for their welfare, and we will ensure that every sen is managed with integrity and that we deliver on our promises,” she said.

At the event, 60 wounded war veterans received RM500 cash each, while aid for other recipients was transferred directly into their respective bank accounts.

About 200 wounded war veterans are currently under the continuous care and supervision of JHEV.
