New economy minister vows to strengthen Malaysia’s economic position

Akmal Nasrullah pledges to explore all options to ensure Malaysia’s economy remains strong amid global challenges and slower growth forecasts.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Economy will explore every possible effort and option to ensure Malaysia’s economy remains in the best possible position despite challenging circumstances.

Newly appointed Minister of Economy Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said global economic growth is expected to be slower at least until 2027.

“This is due to geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainty, and global trade volatility, which continue to pose major challenges to economic growth,” he said in a Facebook post.

He added that these concerns will guide his focus in determining the priorities that need to be addressed.

Akmal Nasrullah was sworn in today before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, at Istana Negara.

His appointment follows the MADANI government cabinet reshuffle. – Bernama
