Residents in Serkam gain access to three new community health, welfare and rehabilitation facilities, says Melaka chief minister.
JASIN: Residents in the Serkam state constituency can now enjoy easier and more convenient access to health, welfare and rehabilitation facilities following the opening three new community facilities in the area today.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof said the facilities – the MADANI Community Rehabilitation and Gymnasium Centre, the Medicine Locker Service and the Nur Ehsan Community-Based Rehabilitation (PDK) Programme – were established to bring service delivery closer to the people.
“The Serkam State Assembly Community Rehabilitation and Gymnasium Centre is established to provide rehabilitation services to the public, especially individuals in need of follow-up treatment after receiving care at hospitals or clinics.
“Through the UniMADANI Grant 2024, a total of RM100,000 has been allocated for the provision of rehabilitation equipment and basic gym facilities,” he said when officiating the opening of the community facilities in conjunction with the Serkam State Assembly Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) Programme here today.
Also present was Serkam assemblyman Datuk Zaidi Attan.
Ab Rauf said the centre would be managed by Melaka State Health Department personnel, with support Community Paramedics (PARAKOM), to ensure users receive the best guidance, monitoring and rehabilitation services.
He added that the rehabilitation centre will also provide Medicine Locker Services, enabling patients to receive their supply of medicines according to appointment dates without having to wait or queue at pharmacy counters.
“This facility can also be utilised by Umbai Health Clinic and Merlimau Health Clinic patients, making Serkam as the first state constituency in Melaka to expand the implementation of the Medicine Locket Service through a community rehabilitation centre,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said the Nur Ehsan PDK initiative, which focuses on rehabilitation, training and skills development for persons with disabilities (PwDs), began operating at its new location in Serkam in May 2025 after relocating from Taman Pulai Indah, Merlimau, adding that it currently has 21 trainees undergoing continuous training and rehabilitation programmes
He added that Melaka now has 18 PDK centres supported by 95 personnel, while the Social Welfare Department has allocated RM4.41 million to support the programme’s implementation statewide, benefitting more than 500 PwD participants.
“Of the total, more than RM166,000 has been specifically allocated to support the operations and needs of the Nur Ehsan PDK,” he said.
He added that the state government will continue implementing various programmes and initiatives that directly benefit the people to ensure service delivery continues to meet community needs.
