No Malaysians affected by UAE security developments, says envoy

Malaysia’s ambassador to the UAE confirms all 8,500 Malaysians there are safe, with missions operating 24/7 amid regional conflict.

KUALA LUMPUR: No Malaysians have been reported affected by the recent security developments in the United Arab Emirates.

Malaysia’s Ambassador to the UAE, Datuk Tengku Sirajuzzaman Tengku Mohamed Ariffin (pic), said approximately 8,500 Malaysians are currently in the country.

This figure includes residents, transit passengers, and those stranded due to flight disruptions.

“The Malaysian Mission in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Dubai are operating 24 hours daily, and we continue to monitor the situation very closely,” he said during a live broadcast.

He urged all Malaysians in the UAE to register with the missions to receive updates.

Sirajuzzaman advised stranded passengers to constantly update their personal information with airlines.

He said passengers should only go to the airport when notified by the airline that their flight is confirmed.

“For stranded passengers, the UAE government has taken the initiative to accommodate them in hotels while waiting for their next flights,” he added.

He emphasised that all diplomatic missions are operating 24 hours to provide assistance.

Priority for assistance is given to urgent cases and vulnerable groups.

“Every Malaysian who contacts the mission is being attended to,” Sirajuzzaman noted.

He said some hotels may not have the latest information on government assistance.

Those affected can contact the embassy or consulate directly for support.

For consular assistance, the Embassy in Abu Dhabi can be contacted at +971 50 6146894.

The Consulate General in Dubai can be reached at +971 4 3985 847.

All Malaysians in the UAE are urged to register their details through the e-Konsular portal.

The conflict in the Middle East has now entered its fifth day.

The UAE Ministry of Defence reported that 186 ballistic missiles were launched towards the country.

It said 172 were successfully intercepted, 13 fell into the sea, and one landed within its territory.

The ministry also recorded 812 Iranian drones launched, with 755 intercepted.

Fifty-seven drones were reported to have fallen, and eight cruise missiles were detected and destroyed.
