Over 150,000 husbands channel part of their EPF contributions to wives via the i-Sayang scheme, with total transfers reaching RM309 million.

PETALING JAYA: More than 158,000 husbands have opted to share their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributions with their spouses through the i-Sayang programme, channeling a total of RM309.4 million into their wives’ accounts since its launch in March 2023.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said in a written parliamentary reply that the initiative, introduced to promote financial security among women, allows husbands to voluntarily transfer 2% of their mandatory monthly EPF contributions to their wives.

“The i-Sayang programme allows husbands to voluntarily allocate 2% of their monthly EPF contributions (employee share) to their wives’ EPF accounts.

“Since its launch in March 2023, 158,000 husbands have participated in the programme, involving total transfers amounting to RM309.4 million as of August 2025,” he said in response to Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Independent–Bukit Gantang).

Anwar said the government continues to strengthen retirement savings among Malaysians through various measures, including incentive-based and voluntary contribution schemes.

He highlighted that the government had increased the i-Saraan matching incentive rate from 15% to 20% effective January 1, 2025, with a maximum limit of RM500 a year and RM5,000 over a lifetime.

“This enhancement will see total contributions rise to RM2.8 billion from 487,375 members in the first half of 2025, an increase of 74% compared with the previous year,” he said.

As of August 2025, 1.12 million EPF members have made voluntary contributions amounting to RM14.13 billion.

He added that the government’s 50% matching incentive under the i-Suri programme — aimed at housewives registered under the e-Kasih database — will also be extended into 2025.

“This incentive is subject to a maximum government contribution of RM300 a year and RM3,000 over a lifetime for housewives under 55 who are registered in the e-Kasih database,” he said.
