Penang and Tamil Nadu pledge to deepen cooperation in cultural exchange, economic development and diaspora relations during high-level meeting.
GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international cooperation and diaspora relations following a high-level engagement with Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.
Penang Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo (pic) said the meeting underscored the shared resolve of both governments to deepen bilateral cooperation.
He said both sides acknowledged the deep historical and cultural connections linking Penang and Tamil Nadu, especially through the Tamil diaspora.
“Our discussions explored potential avenues for enhanced collaboration across various sectors, including cultural exchange, community engagement, economic cooperation and sustainable development,” he said in a statement.
Sundarajoo, who is also Penang Tamil Schools Special Committee chairman, noted the engagement underscores the state’s commitment to fostering international goodwill.
He stressed that the Penang state government remains committed to nurturing international partnerships that promote inclusivity and sustainable progress.
Sundarajoo was accompanied by Bagan Dalam assemblyman K.Kumaran, Batu Uban assemblyman A. Kumaresan and North Chennai MP Dr Kalanidhi Veeraswamy.
The cultural bond between India and Malaysia, particularly between Tamil Nadu and Penang, is rooted in a shared history spanning over 300 years.
