Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow calls for rational discourse and national harmony, warning against reckless actions that exploit racial sentiments.
GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has urged the public to avoid any provocation that could undermine harmony and unity among the country’s multiracial community.
He emphasised that unity has been the foundation for national progress, making its preservation crucial for continued stability and prosperity.
“We have a shared responsibility to ensure it remains intact and continues to progress with high values as a model nation, where no one is marginalised and all rights and interests are protected and appreciated,” he told a press conference at Komtar.
Chow made these remarks when commenting on public concern over certain quarters provoking racial sentiments on various issues.
He stressed that any party with opposing agendas should think rationally and prioritise national harmony over reckless actions.
The Chief Minister noted that differences in opinion, including in politics, are normal but should be expressed constructively and responsibly.
Separately, he announced the 2026 Penang Bridge International Marathon will be held on Dec 13 at the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge.
The annual event is targeting between 23,000 and 25,000 participants, including international runners.
