Perak remains on high alert despite minimal storm impact

Perak maintains high alert for Tropical Storm Senyar with monitoring and aid efforts, as fallen trees reported in multiple districts

IPOH: The Perak state government is maintaining high alert and precautionary measures despite not being severely impacted by Tropical Storm Senyar.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the State Disaster Control Centre at the State Secretary’s office continuously monitors the situation using Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasts.

“Based on initial reports, Perak was not badly affected by the storm, but we are continuing to monitor the situation and continue to provide assistance to flood victims,” he told reporters after launching the State Assembly Members’ Information System.

Perak was among states expected to be affected by Tropical Storm Senyar, with forecasts predicting heavy rain and strong winds until Saturday.

The Perak Civil Defence Force reported more than 10 incidents of fallen trees from yesterday evening until 6 am this morning across multiple districts.

Affected districts included Kuala Kangsar, Muallim, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Taiping due to strong winds and storms.

The Public Works Department Disaster Operations Room confirmed four Perak districts were affected until 6 am this morning.

Saarani said all security agency assets had been deployed to flood-affected areas alongside food supplies for temporary relief centres.

The relief centres currently accommodate more than 5,000 victims across the state.

“I managed to visit several PPS yesterday, so far all needs including food have been well managed by the Social Welfare Department,” he said.

Authorities will ensure victims’ basic needs are met and their homes are completely safe before they can return.

The newly launched eADN system serves as an integrated digital platform for managing state assembly members’ information.

Through eADN, applications from serving assemblymen, retirees or their heirs can be processed online more efficiently.

This digital approach saves time, improves information accuracy and reduces reliance on manual processes according to Saarani. – Bernama
