Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says disaster agency is coordinating immediate action in six flood-hit states, with over 13,000 victims in shelters.
KUALA LUMPUR: The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) is coordinating immediate action with relevant agencies in six flood-hit states, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
He said this includes early SMS emergency announcements by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and the channelling of welfare aid by the Social Welfare Department.
Other measures include the Department of Irrigation and Drainage operating emergency pumps to control water levels.
“I am deeply affected by the floods that have hit several states and by the plight of the victims,” Anwar posted on Facebook.
He advised the public to always be alert and comply with instructions from authorities to evacuate when instructed.
The Prime Minister also expressed appreciation to all frontliners and volunteers assisting the flood victims.
Based on the latest data, the six states are Selangor, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Johor and Sarawak.
A total of 13,419 victims are sheltering in 95 relief centres.
