Public urged to avoid exploiting racial and religious sentiments

Finance Minister’s aide warns against divisive rhetoric, urging respect for legal processes and caution on social media during Ramadan.

IPOH: The public has been urged to respect the rule of law and refrain from manipulating racial and religious sentiments that could divide society.

Finance Minister’s political secretary Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim emphasised that Malaysia is governed by constitutional law.

He stated that any sensitive issues should be left entirely to the authorities for action through proper legal channels.

“Law enforcement is not something that can be carried out arbitrarily by any party,” he told reporters today.

He advised the public to be more cautious on social media to avoid fake news and slander.

Muhammad Kamil warned against being influenced by minority groups exploiting sensitive issues for attention.

“Even if it may only be five per cent who are playing up this issue, this small group often creates a lot of noise,” he said.

This leads to inaccurate perceptions among the wider public, he added.

In conjunction with Ramadan, he reminded the public to embrace the holy month’s spirit as an opportunity to seek truth.

He urged people not to be swayed by sentiments, slander and incitement spread by irresponsible parties.

“The majority of the people in this country want unity and cohesion to prevail,” Muhammad Kamil said.

Therefore, the public must be more vigilant and cautious before accepting and reacting to any information.

He was speaking after officiating a MADANI frontliners appreciation ceremony and a Singgah Sahur event with the Perak police contingent.
