PUTRAJAYA: The public is reminded to make early preparations and remain vigilant in facing the Northeast Monsoon.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the Cabinet was informed the number of flood victims at relief centres had dropped to 3,147 people.
Four temporary relief centres have been closed, leaving 49 still in operation.
Fahmi said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof briefed the Cabinet on the National Disaster Management Agency’s readiness.
“The public is reminded to stay informed and make appropriate plans to face the monsoon, especially over the next few days,” he told reporters.
Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesman, was speaking after attending the national-level International Anti-Corruption Day celebration.
He added that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will contact Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto this evening.
The call is to discuss possible assistance Malaysia can extend and to convey condolences for floods and a landslide in Sumatra.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department issued a continuous rain warning at the alert level on Wednesday.
The warning is expected to affect several states in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah from December 5 to 8. – Bernama
