Pulau Temelong chosen as new rural recreation hub under MADANI

Pulau Temelong in Lenggong is set to become a new eco-tourism and recreation destination after being selected as a MADANI Adopted Village.

LENGGONG: Kampung Temelong has been selected as a MADANI Adopted Village due to the significant potential of Pulau Temelong to become a new rural recreation and tourism destination.

The Department of Youth and Sports (JBSN) director-general Azura Abidin said the area’s natural beauty provides a distinct advantage for developing water-based tourism and recreational activities.

“We at the Ministry of Youth and Sports will continue to plan and carry out various activities here, focusing on recreation, eco-tourism, and eco-education,” she said.

She added that programmes starting next year will foster cooperation with the local community and youth groups.

Azura stated that Kampung Temelong was chosen due to its uniqueness and the great potential of Pulau Temelong.

Infrastructure upgrades worth nearly RM1 million have been completed to enhance visitor safety and comfort.

Over 10 key works, including jetty improvements, roads, restrooms, campsites, and a surau, have been finished.

“This investment is expected to significantly boost community development and the tourism sector in Kampung Temelong,” she said.

Pulau Temelong offers a campsite and water sports like rafting, kayaking, and fishing.

Recreational activity bookings for the island are fully booked from January to February 2026.

Azura said this reflects the positive impact and socio-economic benefits of the MADANI initiative for the local community.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the project would benefit local community development.

He stated the role of JBS would open opportunities to implement programmes involving the younger generation.

“This selection is a timely and appropriate decision, aligning with Lenggong’s status as a tourism area,” said Shamsul Anuar, who is also the MP for Lenggong.

He expressed hope that future programmes would educate the younger generation to appreciate and preserve the natural environment. – Bernama
