Rapid KL travel pass prices to rise for first time since 2009

Rapid KL travel passes will see price adjustments from Jan 1, 2026, with new monthly pass introduced, while My50 and concession passes remain unchanged.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has announced the first price adjustment for several Rapid KL travel passes since 2009, effective from Jan 1, 2026.

The company said the move is necessary to align with public transport network expansion and rising operational costs for long-term service sustainability.

“As part of product improvements, Prasarana is also introducing Rapid Bulanan, a new 30-day pass offering unlimited travel on Rapid KL’s rail and bus services, priced at RM150 for both citizens and non-citizens,” it said in a statement.

The Rapid Kota passes for Malaysians will be priced at RM10 for a 1-Day Pass and RM25 for a 3-Day Pass, with the 2-Day Pass discontinued.

Rapid Kembara passes will be sold at RM25 for a 1-Day Pass and RM55 for a 3-Day Pass, also with the 2-Day Pass discontinued.

The Rapid Keluarga pass for Malaysian citizens has been set at a new price of RM30.

From Jan 1, new applications for the Rapid Pelajar concession will be limited to Malaysian students only.

Non-citizen students with a current pass can continue their 50% discount until it expires or until Dec 31, 2026, whichever is earlier.

The My50 unlimited monthly pass and concession passes for senior citizens and persons with disabilities will retain their current rates for eligible citizens.

Acting head of Group Stakeholder Experience Management and Marketing, Ashok Panchalingam, said the adjustments were based on a review of usage patterns, network expansion and operating costs.

“Although a price adjustment is being implemented, Rapid KL travel passes continue to offer the best value to commuters through consistent savings, the convenience of unlimited travel, and an ever-improving mobility experience,” he said.

He added the move aligns with the transformation of the Rapid KL network, which is now far more comprehensive than a decade ago.

This includes the opening of the Kajang Line in 2016 and the Putrajaya Line in 2022, alongside new bus routes and increased service frequency.
