The federal government allocates RM35.15 million to rebuild eight dilapidated schools in Melaka, enhancing safety and learning environments for students
MELAKA: The federal government has allocated RM35.15 million to rebuild dilapidated buildings at eight schools across the state.
State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman said the project aims to provide a safer and more conducive learning environment for students.
The allocation covers the reconstruction of SJKC On Lok, SK Sebatu, SK Simpang Empat, SK Parit Gantong, SK Kampung Tengah, SK Tun Syed Ahmad Shahabudin, SMK Klebang Besar and SJKC Chabau.
“In addition to upgrading dilapidated buildings, Melaka is actively implementing several school infrastructure development and upgrading projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan to meet growing educational needs, particularly in high-density areas,” he said.
Rahmad said key projects include constructing additional blocks at existing schools to accommodate increasing student enrolment and enhance learning facilities.
He was speaking to reporters after inspecting the first day of the school session at SK Paya Dalam.
An additional building project at SMK Durian Tunggal, approved under the 12MP Rolling Plan 5, includes six new classrooms and five Special Integrated Education Programme (PPKI) classrooms.
It also includes a PPKI workshop, a meeting room and a school hall.
Meanwhile, the construction of an additional building at SK Belimbing Dalam was approved under Rolling Plan 4 in 2024.
A similar project at SK Parit Melana has been approved under Rolling Plan 5 for 2025.
Rahmad said Melaka currently has 239 primary schools and 80 secondary schools.
Melaka Tengah records the highest number at 136 schools, followed by Alor Gajah with 98 and Jasin with 85.
He added that all schools are equipped with basic facilities such as classrooms, canteens, toilets, fields and playgrounds.
Special needs-friendly facilities are also available at 113 primary schools and 40 secondary schools.
To ease student congestion in densely populated areas, Rahmad said two new secondary schools in Duyong and Krubong have been completed and are now in operation.
He added that under the 2026 Budget, the federal government approved the construction of the Batu Berendam School Complex and the Anjung Gapam School Complex.
The construction of SMK Rembia was also approved under Rolling Plan 1 of the 13th Malaysia Plan.
Meanwhile, Rahmad said a total of 14,220 Year One students registered for the current school session across the state.
This marks an increase of 478 pupils or 3.5% compared to 13,742 last year.
“However, the figure remains provisional as registration is still ongoing until today, the first day of school,” he said.
