Sarawak continues NCR land survey programme, over 1.2 million hectares surveyed

Sarawak’s NCR land survey programme has covered 1.22 million hectares, with nearly 950,000 hectares gazetted as Native Communal Reserves

SIBU: The Sarawak government remains committed to its Native Customary Rights (NCR) land survey programme, a key initiative for rural development and securing land rights.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the programme, ongoing since 2010, has surveyed 1.22 million hectares of NCR land perimeter-wise as of October 31.

He stated that 947,442 hectares of this land have been gazetted as Native Communal Reserve under Section 6 of the State Land Code.

Awang Tengah’s speech was delivered by state Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh at a ceremony in Sibu.

The government also recently gazetted two new Native Communal Reserve areas in Lembangan/Bekakap/Bawang Assan/Tanjung Manis and Tebalong, Batang Oya.

Survey work for individual land lots under Section 18 of the State Land Code is also progressing actively.

To date, 106,467 individual lots covering 127,016 hectares have been surveyed, with 34,507 lots issued title deeds.

Awang Tengah advised NCR landowners against selling their land for short-term profit.

He urged them to leverage government initiatives through the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development for economic development.

At the Sibu ceremony, 195 land title deeds were handed over to 171 recipients from several areas.

A total of 170 landowners also received Land Compensation Cheques totalling RM4.49 million for a road project. – Bernama
